We are happy that you are considering First Union as a place to visit and to share in a Bible-based Worship experience. If this will be your first visit with us, you may have a few questions about how we conduct our services. Below are a few frequently asked questions that we hope will make your visit a little less stressful.
How many services do you have, and what time do they start?
At this time, we only offer one service, which begins at 10:00 a.m. We also have Sunday School every Sunday morning, which begins at 8:45 a.m. Adult, Children, and Youth Bible Study are held every Wednesday evening @ 7:30 p.m., immediately following our Prayer Service which begins at 7:00 p.m.
If this is my first visit at First Union, what should I do when I arrive?
When you arrive at First Union, our ‘Greeters Ministry’ will welcome you into the House of the Lord with a smile, and ask that you fill out a ’Visitors Card’ which takes about a minute, afterwhich you will be led to our Ushers, who will give you a copy of the day’s Program and who will be more than happy to escort you to a seat and/or answer any questions you may have. You will find that our Greeters and Ushers are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet and will more than happy to assist you in any way they can.
As a visitor, where would I sit in the Sanctuary? Are there areas where I shouldn’t sit?
First Union’s Sanctuary has open seating and you may sit anywhere you desire. We do, however, ask that the front two rows on both sides of the Sanctuary be ‘reserved’ for use by our Deacons, Deaconess and Ministers Wives, and visiting clergy and their spouses.
What is the protocol for joining First Union?
At the end of the service, the officiating Minister will ‘open up the doors of the Church’ and ask for anyone who is not a member to come forward if they would like to join. You would then proceed to the front of the church. At this time, the Church Clerk will ask how you are coming to the Church; this will either be by Letter (from your previous Church), by Christian Experience (you have already been baptized), or as a Candidate for Baptism (Profession of Faith).
Are there facilities for crying babies and small children?
Yes, we do. First Union now offers Children’s Church on the 1st, 3rd, & 4th Sundays (2nd Sunday is Youth Sunday), and our Nursery is also available on these same Sundays for children ages 0-5 years old.
As a visitor, am I expected to donate to the Church?
All donations are welcome, but are not expected from our visitors. If you have received a Word (which we hope you will) and would like to bless this Ministry with a donation, we thank you. But in no way are you expected to give as a visitor. First Union does encourage tithing by its members.
Is there handicap parking available?
There are designated handicap parking spaces available right next to the church.
How will I know when to stand?
The Pastor or the Minister for the service will ask the congregation to stand or sit or you can follow the lead of the congregation. We usually stand during Devotional Service, Scripture Reading, and Invitation to Discipleship.
What do I do if I want to join a ministry?
After becoming a member, you may contact the President/Leader of the ministry you are interested in becoming a part of. If you would like hand’s on guidance, ask one of our Ushers; they will be glad to escort you to the person you need to speak with.
